If you have a kid at King, you’re already in the PTO. There are no dues and nothing to sign up for.
People ask us all the time what we actually do with the money we raise, so here’s the answer.
Everything below is from the 2025-2026 school year.
Money that Goes Straight to Classrooms
Mini Grants for every teacher. Each classroom teacher gets $25 per student to spend on their room. Most of it goes to basic school supplies and whatever else the class needs that year. Specials teachers and support staff get grants too.
Extra for new classrooms. We provide additional funds to teachers who are new to King, or who are moving to a different grade, to help offset the cost of setting up a room from scratch.
Supplies we buy outright, so teachers don’t have to spend grant money on them:
- Homework folders
- 4th-grade recorders
- Recess supplies
- School supplies (crayons, pencils, notebooks, you name it!)
Professional development. We support staff PD days.
The Stuff Your Kids Will Remember
We fund the 5th grade end-of-year celebration, including the field trips, the T-shirts, and the pizza.
We also support most of what fills the King calendar:

- Ice Cream Social
- International Night
- Turkey Trot
- Field Day Frenzy
- Silent Auction
- Restaurant Nights
- Bagel Fridays
- Science Olympiad
- Math Club
- Lego League
- King Staff Appreciation Events

Taking Care of King Staff
We sponsor staff appreciation events all year long:
- Small monthly thank yous throughout the year
- Dinner on late nights, when staff have to stay for events like Curriculum Night
- A full week of teacher appreciation every May
- Bagel Fridays, where staff never pay for theirs
Our staff appreciation budget has grown many times over in the last few years, which says a lot about what King families think of the people teaching their kids.
Giving to…
- $500 a year to the Community Action Network (CAN)
- $1,000 to the district-wide Title 1 fundraiser, $30 for 30k
The unglamorous half
Plenty of what we do costs nothing but time. Volunteers roll all the coins from the Book Fair. Somebody calls around every year for charter bus quotes for field trips.
How we decide
The PTO Board votes, and majority rules. No one person can block something. Meetings are open to any King family, we post the minutes, and the budget is public.
